ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನು, ಹೇ ಸಂಜಯ, ಯುದ್ಧಾಪೇಕ್ಷೆಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಂಡವರು ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿದನಂತರ ಏನು ಮಾಡಿದರು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ:
ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸಿರುವಂತೆ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನೂ ಸಂಜಯನೂ ಚರ್ಚಿಸಿದ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತಾ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತದ ಮೂಲತತ್ವ. ಈ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತವು ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ರಣಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರೂಪಿತವಾಯಿತು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲಾಯಿತು. ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ರಣರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವೋತ್ತಮ ಪರಮ ಪುರುಷನೇ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ. ಕೌರವರ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಕಟ್ಟಕಡೆಗೆ ವಿಜಯವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆಯೇ ಎನ್ನುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ತೀವ್ರ ಸಂದೇಹವಿತ್ತು. ತನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ತನ್ನ ತಮ್ಮ ಪಾಂಡುವಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಘನಘೋರ ಸಮರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ರಣಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೂ, ಅಣ್ಣತಮ್ಮಂದಿರ ನಡುವೆ ರಾಜಿಯಾಗುವುದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಂಜಯನು ವ್ಯಾಸರ ಶಿಷ್ಯ, ಅವರ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ಆತನು ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನ ಮಂದಿರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲು ಸಮರ್ಥನಾದ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನು ಯುದ್ಧಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ.

Dhrtarastra said: O Sanjaya, after assembling in the place of pilgrimage at Kuruksetra, what did my sons and the sons of Paandu do, being desirous to fight?dharma-kshetre kuru-kshetre

Purport:
The topics discussed by Dhrtarastra and Sanjaya form the basic principle of this great philosiphy called the Bhagavad Gita. Dhrtarastra, the father of the Kurus, was highly doubtful about the possibility of his son's ultimate victory. Even though his sons and the sons of Pandu had assembled in that battlefiled of Kurukshetra for a determined engagement of the war, he did not want a compromise between the cousins and brothers. He wanted to be sure of the fate of this sons on the battlefield. Sanjaya was a student of Vyaasa, and therefore, by the mercy of Vyaasa, Sanjaya was able to envision the Battlefiled of Kurukshetra even while he was in the room of Dhrtarastra. Therefore Dhrtarastra asked him what is happening in the battlefield.
