ಅನುವಾದ:
ಸೈನ್ಯವ್ಯೂಹವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಲು ಇರುವ ಆಯಕಟ್ಟಿನ ಬಿಂದುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮ್ಮನಿಮ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ನೀವು ಈಗ ಪಿತಾಮಹ ಭೀಷ್ಮರಿಗೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ನೀಡಬೇಕು.
ಭಾವರ್ಥ:
ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನು ಭೀಷ್ಮರ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶಂಸಿಸಿದನಷ್ಟೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಉಳಿದವರಿಗೆ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವು ಭೀಷ್ಮರಷ್ಟು ಮುಖ್ಯರಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನಿಸಬಹುದು. ಈ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ಬಂದ ಕೂಡಲೆ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನು ತನ್ನ ಎಂದಿನ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ಕೌಶಲ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಲಿನ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನಾಡಿ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶವನ್ನು ಸರಿಹೊಂದಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದ. ಭೀಷ್ಮರು ನಿಸ್ಸಂದೇಹವಾಗಿಯೂ ವೀರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟರು ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ವೃದ್ಧರಾದುದರಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಯೋಚನೆಯನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಭೀಷ್ಮರು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಬಹುದು. ಅವರು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಕಾದುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಗ್ನರಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಶತ್ರುಗಳು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ಆದುದರಿಂದ, ಇತರ ವೀರರು ತಮ್ಮ ಆಯಕಟ್ಟಿನ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದು ಶತ್ರುವು ಸೇನಾವ್ಯೂಹವನ್ನು ಚದುರಿಸಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ಕೊಡದಿರುವುದು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಭೀಷ್ಮರು ಕೌರವರೊಡನೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕೌರವರಿಗೆ ವಿಜಯ ಎಂದೇ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ಭಾವನೆ. ಭೀಷ್ಮರೂ ದ್ರೋಣರೂ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸವು ಅವನಿಗಿತ್ತು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಮಹಾಯೋಧರಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಆಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಾತ್ಕಾರವಗಿ ದ್ರೌಪದಿಯ ವಸ್ತ್ರಾಪಹರಣ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ನಡೆದಾಗ, ನಿಸ್ಸಹಾಯಕಳಾದ ಅವಳು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮೊರೆ ಇಟ್ಟಳು. ಆದರೆ ಆಗ ಅವರಿಬ್ಬರೂ ಒಂದು ಮಾತನ್ನೂ ಆಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಮಹಾನಾಯಕರಿಗೂ ಪಾಂಡವರ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಇದ್ದಿತು ಎಂದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಜೂಜಾಟದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ದೂರವಿಟ್ಟ ಹಾಗೆ ಈಗಲೂ ದೂರವಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಅವನು ಭರವಸೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ.

Translation:
Now all of you must give full support to Grandfather Bheeshma, standing at your respective strategic points in the phalanx of the army.
Purport:
Duryodhana, after praising the prowess of Bheeshma, further considered that others might think that they had been considered less important, so in his usual diplomatic way, he tried to adjust the situation in the above words. He emphasized that Bheeshmadeva was undoubtedly the greatest hero, but he was on old man, so everyone must especially think of his protection from all sides. He might become engaged in the fight, and the enemy might take advantage of his full engagement on one side. Therefore it was important that other heroes would not leave their strategic positions and allow the enemy to break the phalanx. Duryodhana clearly felt that the victory of the Kurus depended on the presence of Bheeshmadeva. He was confident of the full support of Bheeshmadeva and Dronacharya in the battle because he well knew that they did not even speak a word when Arjuna's wife Draupadi, in her helpless condition, had appealed to them for justice while she was being forced to strip naked in the presence of all the great generals in the assembly. Although he knew that the two generals had some sort of affection for the Pandavas, he hoped that all such affection would now be completely given up by them, as was customary during the gambling peformances.
